Sylhet, Aug 27 (V7N) — Dengue infections are continuing to rise in Sylhet Division, with one more case reported in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases recorded this year to 172.
The latest patient was diagnosed at Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex in Habiganj. At present, 13 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals across the division.
The figures were confirmed on Tuesday by Dr Md Mahbubul Alam, director of the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the latest health department data, six patients are being treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, two at Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, one at North East Medical Hospital Sylhet, two at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, one at Lakhai Upazila Health Complex and one at Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex.
Between January 1 and August 25, a total of 172 dengue cases have been detected in Sylhet Division. The patients include residents of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Moulvibazar, as well as several people from other districts.
One person has died of dengue in the division so far this year. No new dengue-related death was reported in the past 24 hours.
The health authorities have urged residents to keep homes and surrounding areas clean, remove stagnant water and eliminate potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes to help prevent the spread of dengue.
People experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache and body aches have also been advised to seek medical attention promptly.
