Dhaka, Aug 12 (V7N) — Parents of the students killed in the Milestone tragedy formed a human chain in front of the metro station depot near the school on Tuesday morning, demanding justice, compensation, and a nationwide ban on mandatory school coaching.

The demonstration began at around 7:30 am, nearly three weeks after the incident, with parents expressing frustration over what they described as a lack of visible progress in the investigation. Many accused the school authorities of negligence and mental harassment of students in the name of coaching.

During the protest, speakers urged parents and students from across the city to join the movement to end what they called the “coaching business” in educational institutions.

The parents placed eight specific demands:

1. Ensure a thorough investigation and fair trial of the incident.

2. Ban the coaching business in all schools, including Milestone School, nationwide.

3. Government compensation of Tk 5 crore for each deceased student and Tk 1 crore for each injured.

4. School compensation of Tk 2 crore for each deceased student and Tk 1 crore for each injured.

5. Relocate either the school or the runway to prevent future risks.

6. Remove the branch headmistress, Miss Khadija, within 72 hours and hold her accountable through a proper investigation.

7. Release the school’s CCTV footage to the public.

8. Move Air Force training activities to unpopulated areas.

The protest comes amid mounting calls for structural reforms in school safety and greater accountability from both educational authorities and the government.
