Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N) — The supply of bottled soybean oil has yet to return to normal in the capital Dhaka, even after a recent price adjustment by the government, with shortages still visible in local grocery stores.

Retailers say limited profit margins have discouraged them from maintaining adequate stock. According to shopkeepers, the price set by dealers allowed for a profit of only Tk 1 per liter, prompting many to sell oil in restricted quantities. They expressed hope that supply conditions will improve following the latest price revision.

The shortage intensified amid public concern over fuel supplies linked to the ongoing tensions involving Iran, during which bottled soybean oil largely disappeared from the market, reportedly under the pretext of supply disruptions.

In response to the situation, the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday increased the price of soybean oil by Tk 4 per liter.

Under the new rates, loose soybean oil is priced at Tk 179 per liter, while bottled soybean oil has been set at Tk 199 per liter.

Consumers continue to face difficulties in accessing the essential cooking item, raising concerns about market stability and supply chain management.
