Dhaka, May 06 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has rejected the bail petition of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Jalil Mondal in a case related to the killings at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on May 5, 2013.
The decision came on Wednesday (May 6) following a hearing by a three-member bench led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar.
During the hearing, the defense argued that the former police official was willing to cooperate with the trial as a public witness in the interest of justice, if permitted by the tribunal. However, after reviewing the matter in detail, the court rejected the bail application.
Meanwhile, the tribunal has set June 7 for the hearing on charge framing against eight individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a separate case involving the killing of nine people during a raid on an alleged militant hideout in the capital’s “Jahaz Barati” area.
In another development, a hearing on a contempt of court charge against retired Lt. Col. Hasinur Rahman has been scheduled for May 14.
