Satkhira, May 06 (V7N) — The mango season has officially begun in Satkhira, with early local varieties such as Gobindabhog, Gopalbhog, and Golapkhas arriving in markets and being distributed across the country, including the capital.
In the city’s Sultanpur market, Gobindabhog mangoes were seen selling at wholesale prices between Tk 1,200 and Tk 1,500 per mango on Wednesday (May 6). Retail prices ranged from Tk 1,600 to Tk 1,800. Gopalbhog mangoes are also being sold at similar rates.
Mango trader Kabir Hossain said this year’s production is abundant, leading to a strong supply in the market. He added that although prices appear relatively low, farmers are expected to benefit due to the higher overall yield.
Satkhira Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain confirmed that there has been a bumper mango production this season. Harvesting of early varieties began on May 5, while popular varieties such as Himsagar are expected to reach markets from May 15.
He also noted that the district has set a production target of around 70,000 metric tons and assured that authorities are monitoring the market to prevent the use of harmful chemicals in fruit ripening.
