Dhaka, Nov 07 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has questioned the effectiveness of the country's government system following a police crackdown on female students of the Government College of Applied Human Sciences, formerly known as Home Economics College, in the capital.
In a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday (November 7), he expressed concern over reports that police used batons against female students late at night.
"Is there any government system at all in the country?" he asked, questioning whether anyone was monitoring the situation.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said the students were protesting over what he described as legitimate demands, including the restoration of hall seats, resolution of accommodation shortages and an end to institutional harassment.
He said the police should have held discussions with the protesters instead of using force. He expressed particular concern over reports that male police officers entered the female students' hostel and used batons against them.
The Jamaat chief called for an immediate and impartial investigation into the incident, exemplary punishment for those responsible and fulfilment of the students' demands.
