Dhaka, Nov 01 (V7N)- A depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to ask the country's four seaports to hoist distant warning signal No. 1.
The warning was issued in a special bulletin released by the Meteorological Department on Sunday.
According to the bulletin, the deep depression was located at 6:00 am about 1,325 kilometres southwest of Chattogram port. It was also more than 1,200 kilometres from the ports of Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra.
The weather system is moving gradually west-northwestward and may intensify further into a cyclonic storm, the department said.
Winds around the centre of the deep depression were blowing at a sustained speed of 50 kilometres per hour within a radius of 48 kilometres. Wind speeds could reach 60 kilometres per hour in gusts or squalls.
Due to the rough sea conditions, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been advised to maintain distant warning signal No. 1.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have also been advised to proceed with caution. They have been instructed not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.
