Dhaka, Nov 7 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for national unity in the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, saying a united Bangladesh would not lose its way or allow anyone to take away the people's rights in the future.

He made the remarks while attending a programme marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day on Saturday morning.

Tarique Rahman described November 7, 1975, as a day when the nation identified its friends and adversaries. Drawing comparisons with the mass uprising of 2024, he said students and ordinary people had defended the country's independence during the uprising, just as soldiers and civilians had stood together to protect Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty in 1975.

He said the 1971 Liberation War was fought to achieve independence, while the 2024 uprising was aimed at protecting it. He described the soldiers and civilians who took part in the events of November 7 as patriotic heroes.

The Prime Minister said Ziaur Rahman had stood by Bangladesh on November 7, just as he had taken part in the country's Liberation War.

He further alleged that conspiracies by forces seeking to turn Bangladesh into a subservient state and undermine the reputation of the armed forces had been resisted by soldiers and civilians.

However, Tarique Rahman claimed that such conspiracies continued, referring to the killings of army personnel at Pilkhana and the subsequent establishment of what he described as fascist rule.

Earlier, the Prime Minister attended a colourful display at Army Stadium marking the historic occasion. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, accompanied him at the programme.
