Dhaka, Apr 17 (V7N)- Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has called on all political parties to work together to address the ongoing national crisis instead of avoiding responsibility.
He made the remarks at a District Amir conference held in Moghbazar in the capital on Friday morning (April 17).
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman criticized the government’s stance on the energy situation, saying that official claims do not reflect reality.
“The government says there is no energy crisis, but people are suffering. The electricity crisis has taken a severe turn, which contradicts government statements,” he said.
He also pointed to the rising cost of living, stating that increasing prices of essential commodities have pushed people into despair. According to him, the situation has worsened due to fuel shortages and extortion.
The Jamaat Ameer alleged that public expectations have been undermined through “election engineering”, claiming that the will of the people has been ignored. He further criticized the government for allegedly not ensuring judicial independence, warning that this could harm democratic institutions.
While noting that protests are not ideal during times of national crisis, he said opposition parties have been compelled to take to the streets.
“When the views of the opposition are not considered in the National Assembly, there is no alternative but to protest,” he added.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman concluded by urging political leaders to prioritize national interests over party differences and work collectively to restore stability.
