Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N)- BNP National Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said the 2024 student-led uprising was the outcome of a 17-year-long movement against the then government.
He made the remarks at a memorial meeting marking the 27th death anniversary of former BNP Secretary General Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder on Monday afternoon.
Mosharraf said many are now trying to portray the 2024 movement as the achievement of only a few individuals. He said BNP, along with other political parties, had been engaged in a sustained movement for 17 years.
During this period, BNP leaders and activists faced repression and torture, he said. He also referred to legal cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who has remained in London and has been unable to return home.
Recalling Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder’s role in the anti-Ershad movement, Mosharraf said he was one of the key contributors to its success.
He further said it would take time for the people to see the results of various initiatives undertaken by the government despite numerous challenges.
According to Mosharraf, the opposition is resisting these initiatives because their success could make BNP more popular among the people.
