Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N)- An 11-party alliance has announced a long march from Dhaka to Chattogram on September 5, raising six demands, including implementation of the referendum verdict and resolution of the country's gas, electricity and fertilizer crises.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced the programme at a press conference at the party's central office in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
He said leaders and activists of the alliance will gather at Shapla Chattar at 7:00 am before setting out for Chattogram. During the journey, the alliance will hold rallies and meetings at various locations along the route.
Mia Golam Parwar called on people to participate spontaneously in the long march and said similar programmes would be organized in divisional cities across the country in phases.
Anticipating possible traffic congestion on the highway during the programme, the Jamaat leader apologized in advance to commuters and travelers who may face difficulties.
He said police authorities have assured the alliance of their overall cooperation in maintaining law and order during the programme.
Mia Golam Parwar also sought cooperation from the ruling BNP to ensure that the long march can be conducted peacefully.
The alliance said the programme is part of its broader campaign to press for the implementation of its six-point demands.
