Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N)- BNP will contest the next local government elections independently, without forming an electoral alliance, party Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said.

He made the remarks after a meeting between BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and leaders of the Rajshahi division at the party chairman’s office in Gulshan on Thursday (August 20) evening.

Rizvi said the prime minister has directed party leaders and activists to take strict action against anyone who violates party discipline during the local government elections.

Earlier in the evening, Tarique Rahman held an organizational meeting with leaders of the Pabna and Chapainawabganj district units of the Rajshahi division.

The meeting focused on strengthening BNP’s grassroots organization and making the party’s organizational structure more effective.

Tarique Rahman has been holding a series of such meetings with leaders of different district and metropolitan units as part of efforts to further strengthen BNP’s grassroots network.

The party is expected to contest the upcoming local government elections independently as it seeks to consolidate its organizational strength across the country.
