Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the party does not want religion-based politics or division in the name of religion. He also claimed that no political party is campaigning against the Awami League to secure votes in the upcoming national elections.

He made the remarks at the opening session on the sixth day of the program titled “BNP’s Plan to Build the Country” held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital’s Khamarbari area on Friday (December 12).

Salahuddin Ahmed said those who tried to “politically exploit the spirit of 1971” have failed. “It is not right to divide the spirit of 1971 along partisan lines,” he said.

He urged the nation not to forget what he described as the Awami League’s history of “killings and corruption.” The BNP leader added that the party intends to move forward with a “sound and structured plan” in the upcoming election, rather than an emotional or unplanned approach.

Referring to the recent political developments, he said the ‘24th coup’ was not merely the outcome of a 36-day movement but the cumulative result of “15 and a half years.”

Salahuddin also commented that although many political actors feel pressured by the announcement of the election schedule, they have nevertheless been compelled to welcome it.
