Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today warned that failure by political parties to sign the July Charter would cast the nation under “dark clouds,” as he criticised moves for an unnecessary referendum and called for unity to protect democracy.

Speaking to reporters after providing financial assistance to a man who sold a kidney to pay for his child’s medical treatment in Kamrangirchar, Rizvi said controversies and complications over the Charter’s adoption were harming the country’s democratic prospects. “If political parties do not sign the July Charter, the country’s sky will be covered with dark clouds,” he said. He added that any obstruction to the democratic path would give fascists an opportunity to return, and warned that those who tried to destroy democracy would not be forgiven by the people.

Rizvi, who visited the family to offer support, said he had come to stand by them after learning of the father’s desperate step. “I will try to ensure they receive the best treatment so that no one in this country dies without treatment,” he told journalists.

The BNP leader made the remarks amid ongoing national discussions about the legal status and implementation pathway of the July Charter — a proposed framework for political and constitutional reform that has generated debate among parties and civil society.

Several local party leaders and activists accompanied Rizvi during his visit to Kamrangirchar. The family expressed gratitude for the assistance and the party’s attention to their plight.
