Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami is actively moving around the country to secure votes for the banned Awami League ahead of the upcoming national elections.

He made the remarks while addressing a protest meeting organized by the BNP’s Ulama Dal at the National Press Club on Tuesday (October 14) afternoon. The program was held in protest against what the organizers described as insults to the Holy Quran and derogatory remarks about the Prophet (PBUH).

Rizvi claimed that Jamaat’s recent political activities — including its demand for a national referendum in November — are aimed at derailing the election process. “The people are now questioning whether Jamaat has a secret master plan to create instability in the country under the guise of such demands,” he said.

He further accused Jamaat of “playing into the hands of the Awami League” and acting against the spirit of the people’s movement for democracy.

Background:
Jamaat-e-Islami has recently called for a referendum before the parliamentary elections to implement the National July Charter. In contrast, the BNP has proposed that a referendum be held on the same day as the national elections, marking a clear difference in strategy between the two parties.
