Sylhet, Oct 10 (V7N) – Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has said that the government will provide financial assistance to poor meritorious students up to university level.

"Talented children from poor families, who cannot pursue their studies due to lack of funds, will be given financial aid. Assistance will also be given to those who get the opportunity to enrol in foreign universities," said the minister while speaking as chief guest at an educational assistance distribution ceremony organized by the Sylhet Press Club and Noor Foundation.

The programme was held at the Aminur Rashid Choudhury Auditorium of the Press Club on Saturday afternoon.

Presided over by Sylhet Press Club President Muktabis Un Noor, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mohammad Shamsul Islam and Vice President of Jalalabad Association, Dhaka, Tofael Khan delivered their speeches as special guests. Sylhet Press Club General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam moderated the session.

Ariful Haque Choudhury said that the government is working to prevent meritorious students from dropping out of school due to financial constraints. "Not only in Sylhet, but meritorious boys and girls from poor families in remote areas across the country will also come under the purview of this assistance programme," he said. The government is committed to removing financial barriers to the development of talented children.

He further stated that the government is prioritising ensuring health and education for children from underprivileged families. In line with this, financial assistance of approximately Taka 48 lakh was distributed on Saturday on behalf of the Labour Welfare Foundation in the Sylhet region. Moreover, nationwide financial support programmes are being conducted for the medical treatment of working-class people, including low-income individuals such as rickshaw pullers.

Referring to the development of the Sylhet region, he mentioned that if journalists highlight the prospects and public sufferings of the region through their write-ups, the government will be able to take necessary steps. He assured that he would work for the development of the region.
