Dhaka, Oct 9 (V7N) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken no initiative to permanently remove the nameplates of July martyrs from the Mirpur-10 roundabout in the capital, and instead plans to re-install them in a more beautiful, aesthetic, and eye-catching manner upon completion of renovation work, the DNCC authority said today.

The DNCC authority urged everyone not to pay heed to misleading information and rumours in this regard.

Clarifying the actual situation, the DNCC said following the inauguration of the 'July Graffiti Remake' activity, organized by the corporation at Mirpur-10 today, confusion spread on social media regarding the removal of the nameplates of July martyrs and fighters.

Recently, the police box at the Mirpur-10 roundabout was damaged during an untoward situation arising from an eviction drive against illegal structures. Later, DNCC took the initiative to renovate the police box and enhance the overall beautification of the Mirpur-10 area. To facilitate the ongoing renovation work, the nameplates of July martyrs and fighters attached to the wall of the police box were temporarily removed. This step was taken as part of the renovation work under the instruction of DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton.

DNCC clarified that there is no intention of permanently removing the nameplates. Instead, according to the administrator's plan, these will be redesigned and installed at the Mirpur-10 roundabout area in a more attractive and aesthetically pleasing manner. This will make the nameplates clearly visible to pedestrians and the general public, allowing the contributions of July martyrs and fighters to be remembered with due dignity.

DNCC stated that the plan to redesign and re-present the nameplates was taken with utmost importance given to paying respect to the July martyrs and commemorating the contributions of the fighters. Once the renovation and beautification works are completed, the nameplates will be set up in a more attractive and aesthetic form.

Therefore, DNCC authorities urged everyone to know the facts instead of being misled by confusing information or rumours surrounding the temporary removal of the nameplates. The initiative to develop the Mirpur-10 roundabout in a more aesthetic manner has been taken by integrating development, beautification, and respect for the memory of July martyrs and fighters.
