Teknaf, Oct 11 (V7N) – One passenger was killed and five others, including a college lecturer, were injured in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Teknaf-Cox’s Bazar highway, according to police and local sources.
The accident occurred around 10am on October 10 near Chakmarkul in the Keruntali area along the highway.
Among the injured was Helal Uddin, a lecturer in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department at Maeen Uddin Memorial College in Rangikhali. Three of the injured were reportedly in critical condition.
Local people rescued the injured and took them to a nearby NGO-run hospital. They were later referred for advanced medical treatment, according to sources.
A feed trader at Palongkhali Bazar, Aman, who witnessed the accident, said the pickup and the auto-rickshaw collided directly in front of him. He said three of the injured were in serious condition.
Abul Faisal Md Fahim, a prominent businessman and NGO worker at Palongkhali Station, said road accidents had occurred repeatedly at the same stretch of the highway in recent times. He called for installing speed breakers or taking other appropriate measures to reduce the risk of further accidents.
Mohammad Nurul Absar, in-charge of the Highway Police at Whykong, confirmed that one person had died and five others had been injured in the collision. He said the injured were receiving treatment at different hospitals.
