Dhaka, Oct 10 (V7N) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam today urged residents to remove stagnant water from their homes and surrounding areas promptly to prevent dengue, saying water should not remain stagnant for more than three days. If residents cannot remove it themselves, they should inform the city corporation for necessary action, he added.
He came up with the call as chief guest at a meeting with teachers and guardians at Motijheel Ideal Government Primary School in the capital today. The meeting was organised as part of a three-month dengue prevention and special cleanliness campaign involving students.
Abdus Salam said special cleanliness drives were being conducted every Saturday alongside regular cleaning activities in line with government directives. As part of the programme, the Cleaning Day was observed simultaneously in all 75 DSCC wards today. He said coordinated efforts by the city corporation and residents could keep roads and residential areas clean and reduce the risk of dengue and other diseases.
Emphasising the need to remove stagnant water after rainfall, he said recent daily rainfall had increased the risk of water accumulation in different places. He called on schools, colleges, scouts, rover scouts, girl guides and social organisations to join the cleanliness campaign, stressing that keeping the city clean was everyone's responsibility. Seeking media support in raising public awareness, he said the campaign would succeed through active citizen participation and coordinated efforts.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Health Officer Dr Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman, other officials and local residents attended the event.
