Jerusalem, Oct 05 (V7N)- The United States is preparing to deploy additional troops and aircraft to Israel in the coming weeks amid concerns over a possible escalation in the Middle East, Israeli media reported.
Israeli news website Walla, citing unnamed security sources, reported that around 3,000 US troops are currently deployed across Israel.
The US personnel are involved in operating air defense systems and include pilots, support crews, logistics personnel and troops working at military headquarters, according to the report.
The report said the US military has been carrying out routine troop rotations in recent weeks as some units complete their deployments in the region.
At the same time, additional US troops and aircraft are expected to arrive in Israel in the coming weeks as part of preparations for a possible escalation, according to the unnamed sources cited by Walla.
The reported preparations come amid heightened tensions involving Iran and broader US military activity in the Middle East. Recent reports have also indicated additional US forces and naval assets are being deployed to the region.
Walla reported that Israeli and US military officials are maintaining close coordination over scenarios involving a possible deterioration in the regional security situation, including potential missile attacks from Iran.
The report did not provide details on the number or types of additional aircraft and troops expected to arrive in Israel.
The reported deployment comes as Washington and Tehran remain at odds over the conflict and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran remains open to diplomacy, while US President Donald Trump has rejected conditions proposed by Iran for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
