Dhaka, Oct 9 (V7N) – State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has underpinned the need for establishing industries, factories and institutions through domestic initiatives to build a self-reliant and self-sufficient Bangladesh.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of BUTEX-ITET Dye-Chem Expo-2026 at Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) in Tejgaon here.

Tuku stressed transforming the vast population of the country into an effective workforce to achieve prosperity. He said initiatives to establish links between students and industrial enterprises are extremely important. Through such initiatives, students will gain practical knowledge of the workplace and at the same time, they will have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in their professional lives, he said.

The state minister said the previous government had created a severe crisis in the economic sector, damaging banks and financial institutions. Meanwhile, the international situation and ongoing wars have caused shortages and price hikes in various sectors, including electricity and gas, in many countries around the world, he mentioned. Under these circumstances, he said, the current government has been trying to advance the country's economy and development activities since taking office.

Bangladesh University of Textiles Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Md Julhas Uddin chaired the event, while Engineer Mahbuba Hakim, MP, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Engineer Mahmud Hasan Khan, ITET Bangladesh President and Managing Director of Mempeyre Limited Engineer Enayet Hossain and ITET Bangladesh Secretary-General Engineer ASM Hafizur Rahman Nixon also spoke.
