Rajshahi, Sep 21 (V7N) – Rajshahi University (RU) has formed an investigation committee following allegations of insulting Vice-Chancellor Professor Main Uddin Khan over the pet quota issue. The university has also postponed admissions under institutional facilities related to the pet quota until further notice.

Registrar Professor Iftikharul Alam Masud told reporters after a syndicate meeting on Sunday that a judicial and internal investigation committee has been set up to look into the incident. “The syndicate has decided to propose a judicial investigation. All parties have been called upon to cooperate to ensure the upcoming RUCSU elections are held smoothly,” he said. The RUCSU elections are scheduled to take place on September 25.

The controversy erupted after students protested against the reinstatement of the pet quota, surrounding the residence of the Pro-VC and staging demonstrations on campus. During a confrontation between protesting students and university teachers and officials, Pro-VC and Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman were unable to return to the residence and had to move to the Zuberi building.

Meanwhile, a section of university teachers, officials, and employees have demanded the reinstatement of the pet quota, rejecting the syndicate’s decision. They have called for strict programs, including a full-day campus shutdown starting Monday.

Amid escalating tensions, the university authorities have temporarily suspended the pet quota to restore order on campus while investigations continue.
