AUG 03 (V7N) - Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon held separate courtesy meetings with delegations from Australia and China on Tuesday at his office, focusing on expanding cooperation in higher education, skills development, and research.
During the first meeting, the minister welcomed an Australian delegation led by Assistant Minister for International Education Julian Hill. Also present were Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md. Abdul Khaleque and Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle. The Australian delegates praised Bangladesh's education reforms, while Dr. Milon expressed gratitude for Australia's ongoing support and urged for an increase in scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students.
He emphasized the government's priority on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to harness the country's demographic dividend. "There is tremendous scope for cooperation with a developed country like Australia in this regard," he said.
Later, a delegation from China's Fudan University, headed by Vice-President CHEN Zhimin, paid a courtesy call on the minister. The discussion centered on joint initiatives to advance bilateral educational cooperation. Dr. Milon called for greater collaboration through student and teacher exchange programmes, experience-sharing, and enhanced partnerships—particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
