Dhaka, Aug 9 (V7N) - Actor Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don Haque, was arrested early today in connection with the murder case filed over the death of iconic Dhallywood actor Salman Shah .

Don was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 6am while preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah . A travel ban had been imposed on him in connection with the case, and his name was on the immigration stop list .

Special Police Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Jasim Uddin Khan confirmed the arrest to BSS, adding that the CID, which is investigating the case, took Don into custody and produced him before the court . A Dhaka court later ordered him sent to jail .

Salman Shah, one of Bangladesh’s most popular film stars, died on September 6, 1996 . His death has remained shrouded in controversy and speculation for decades . Initially treated as an unnatural death, a court ordered a murder case be filed nearly 29 years after his death .

In October last year, Alamgir Kumkum, on behalf of Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, filed the case with Ramna Police Station . A total of 11 people were named as accused, including Salman Shah’s former wife, Samira Haque; actor Don; Samira’s mother, Latifa Haque Lucy; businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai; and several others identified as David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, A. Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad . The court has set August 30 as the deadline for submission of the investigation report .
