Rangamati, Nov 06 (V7N) — Police in Rangamati have arrested a local leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League during a special anti-terror drive codenamed “Operation Devil Hunt.” The operation, launched to curb terrorism, improve law and order, and bring fugitives to justice, led to the capture of 27-year-old Samsul Alam Akash, Joint General Secretary of the banned student organization’s Rangamati district unit.

Akash, a resident of the Katapahar area in Banarupa, Rangamati town, was detained on Wednesday night following a tip-off. Confirming the arrest, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahed Uddin said a team of police conducted a targeted operation in the Banarupa area, apprehending Akash without incident. “Legal proceedings against the detainee are underway,” the OC added.

According to intelligence sources, Akash had maintained close contact with fugitive leaders of the banned organization while continuing to organize political activities in coordination with the now-defunct Awami League-affiliated faction. Authorities stated that his activities had been causing fear and concern among local residents.

Law enforcement officials further confirmed that the ongoing “Operation Devil Hunt” will continue across the Rangamati district, targeting individuals linked to outlawed organizations or involved in violent activities. “No matter who they are or what affiliations they hold, everyone connected to such acts will be identified and brought under the law,” a senior police source said.

The arrest is part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling remaining networks of banned political and militant groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, long affected by sporadic violence and political unrest.
