Teknaf, July 15 (V7N) - At a visit to Teknaf Model Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, Chattogram Range DIG Mohammad Ahsan Habib Palash announced that police will soon launch a rapid operation targeting individuals extorting money from vehicle operators at the Teknaf border jetty. He urged the public to stand against local extortionists and support law enforcement efforts.

Accompanying the DIG were Additional DIG Mohammad Kawsar Sikder (commander of 16th APBN), Cox’s Bazar SP Saif Uddin Shahin, Additional SP (Traffic) Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, Additional SP (Sadar Circle) Ahmed Peer, Teknaf OIC Mohammad Gias Uddin, OIC Investigation Himel Roy, and OIC Operations Kamal Hossain.

DIG Palash emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking in border areas:

“There is an increase in drug activity, and the government is planning a major operation. Those involved in drugs as a livelihood, at any level, will be brought to justice.”

He reiterated that extortion at the jetty will be addressed soon after August 5. “No extortionist will escape action. While we may not be able to meet every local expectation, the police will not fail. The apprehension of kidnappers and armed groups in hilly regions requires joint operations,” he explained. He also pledged to remove illegal weapons from the border, including any stolen from police, with operations already underway nationwide.

During the visit, the police welfare society's female executive from PUNAK distributed educational materials and clothing to 30 street children. The DIG also participated in a tree-planting event in the courtyard of the station.
