Dhaka, Aug 30 (V7N)- Malaysia will recruit around 200,000 workers from Bangladesh through various recruiting agencies, with the recruitment process expected to begin in September, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam said.
He made the announcement after a meeting with the Malaysian ambassador at the Secretariat on Sunday (August 30).
The State Minister said Malaysia has also agreed to recruit an additional 10,000 Bangladeshi workers without recruitment fees.
Besides manpower recruitment, the two countries discussed cooperation in infrastructure development. Mir Shah Alam said Malaysia's technology of using rubber-mixed bitumen to make roads more durable would be introduced in Bangladesh.
He said Malaysia would provide technical assistance to Bangladesh for using the technology in road construction.
The State Minister also said Malaysia would cooperate with Bangladesh in the renewable energy sector.
Meanwhile, Mir Shah Alam said rickshaws would no longer be allowed to operate on the capital's main roads. He said a law has already been passed in this regard and the relevant rules would be finalized soon.
He further said two- and four-seater e-rickshaws would be brought under registration for operation in Dhaka. However, six-seater e-rickshaws would neither be allowed to operate in the capital nor be eligible for registration there.
According to the State Minister, six-seater e-rickshaws would instead have the opportunity to obtain registration for operation in different urban areas outside Dhaka.
