Pabna, Aug 29 (V7N) — The biennial election and general meeting of the Chatmohar Press Club in Pabna will be held on Saturday (Aug 29). The election commission has already completed all preparations for the voting.
The election has created a festive atmosphere among candidates and voters, with candidates busy seeking votes from club members. A total of 31 members are eligible to cast their ballots to elect their preferred candidates.
Fourteen candidates are contesting eight posts.
For the post of president, former presidents Helalur Rahman Jewel of The Ittefaq and Rakibur Rahman Tukun of Amar Desh are contesting.
Two candidates are contesting the post of vice-president — M.A. Jinnah of Bhorer Darpan and Salah Uddin Khan Sohel.
Former vice-president Sanjit Saha Kingshuk of Manab Zamin and Shamim Hasan Milon of Samakal are contesting for the post of general secretary.
Nurul Islam of Naya Diganta and Abdul Latif Ranjoo of Kaler Kantho are contesting for the post of joint general secretary.
Former treasurer Zakir Selim of Khola Kagoj and Saiful Islam are contesting for the post of treasurer.
Four candidates are contesting three executive member posts. They are Biplab Acharya, Shahinur Rahman Shahin of Channel 24, S.M. Masud Rana of Sangbad and Jahangir Alam of Inqilab.
Candidates for three other posts have been elected unopposed. They are Shubhashish Bhattacharya Tushar as office secretary, Habibur Rahman Shimul as publicity secretary, and Khandakar Ittekhar Ahmed Tutul as literature and publications secretary.
Veteran journalist and club member Abdul Mannan Palash is serving as the chief election commissioner. Other members of the election commission are club members Rajiur Rahman Rumi, Jahangir Alam, Dewan Jamiul Islam Kabli and Iqbal Kabir Ronju.
R.K.M. Abdur Rab Mia, head teacher of Chatmohar Pilot Girls’ High School, will serve as the presiding officer, while Altaf Hossain, head teacher of Bilchalan High School, will serve as assistant presiding officer.
Chief Election Commissioner Abdul Mannan Palash said all preparations for the voting had already been completed.
“Voting will begin at 10:00am and continue until the scheduled closing time. Before the voting, the club’s general meeting will be held. We hope the election will take place in a festive atmosphere with spontaneous participation from club members,” he said.
