Dhaka, Aug 30 (V7N) – The government has set a target to collect Tk 1,208 crore 45 lakh 15 thousand 738 as land development tax in the current 2026-27 fiscal year, Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu disclosed in Parliament today.

The minister made the announcement in reply to a starred question from ruling party lawmaker Abul Khayer Bhuiyan of Lakshmipur-2 constituency .

“Regular monitoring is being conducted at the field level, while necessary guidance is being provided to the officials concerned to increase land development tax collection,” he added.

The minister said the issue of collecting land development tax against the prescribed targets is discussed every month at revenue conferences held at the divisional, district and upazila levels . The Land Reform Board sent a letter to all divisional commissioners on July 16, instructing them to provide necessary directions to deputy commissioners to accelerate collection during the current fiscal year .

The minister further said a day-long training programme was organised in Shariatpur on August 20 to facilitate modern land management activities and identify measures for increasing land revenue collection .

The revenue target comes amid broader efforts to digitise land tax collection. The government has urged landowners to pay taxes online through the designated portal to make the land management system fully smart and transparent . However, challenges remain, as government ministries and agencies owe over Tk 629 crore in unpaid land development tax arrears .
