Rajshahi, JUNE 03 (V7N) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) has significantly increased security measures across its five-district jurisdiction in anticipation of Eid-ul-Azha, with a particular focus on livestock markets. This announcement was made by RAB-5 Commander Lt. Col. Md. Masud Parvez at a press conference held at City Hat, the largest livestock market in the Rajshahi region, at 11 am today.

To combat extortion, robbery, snatching, and toll-taking at animal markets during the Eid period, RAB has established control rooms in major markets. Alongside these control rooms, first aid centers have been set up to provide immediate treatment for buyers and sellers who might fall ill due to the heat. In critical situations, RAB ambulances are on standby to transport individuals to hospitals.

Commander Masud Parvez further stated that comprehensive measures have been implemented in the control rooms to protect both buyers and sellers. Machines for detecting counterfeit currency have been installed to prevent fraud. Additionally, intelligence surveillance has been intensified in the markets, and checkposts are being set up on important roads to control crime and facilitate searches. "I hope that everyone, including buyers and sellers, who come to the market, will be able to prepare for Eid without any problems," he affirmed.

According to the Department of Livestock, Rajshahi division has prepared a surplus of sacrificial animals this year. A total of 4.3 million animals are ready for sacrifice across the eight districts of the division, while the local demand is estimated at 2.6 million. This surplus of approximately 1.7 million animals will be transported to other districts, including the capital Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet.

Dr. Anand Kumar Adhikari, Rajshahi Divisional Director of the Livestock Department, informed that 302 haats (markets) have been designated for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals in the division, with 161 being permanent and 141 temporary. To ensure animal health, 213 veterinary medical teams have been formed across the division. These teams will be present at the haats to conduct health checks, identify pregnant cows, and implement necessary measures to prevent diseases, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all transactions.
