Ukhiya, Oct 26 (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1 lakh yaba tablets, valued at approximately Tk 3 crore, from an abandoned site in the Ukhiya border area on Saturday night. No suspects were arrested during the operation.

According to a press release issued by BGB on Sunday morning, a special patrol team from Balukhali BOP positioned themselves around 300 yards northwest of border pillar BP-28 inside Bangladesh in the Shialipara area at around 9:30 p.m. Later, at approximately 10:00 p.m., two individuals were seen crossing the border from Myanmar into Bangladesh. When challenged by BGB personnel, they abandoned a sack and fled back towards Myanmar.

Upon searching the area, the patrol team discovered ten blue airtight packages wrapped in white polyethylene bags inside a paddy field, containing a total of 100,000 yaba tablets. Extensive combing and inspection of the area continued throughout the night, but the traffickers managed to evade capture.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, psc, Commanding Officer of the Ukhiya Battalion, confirmed the recovery and said intelligence efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest the fleeing drug traffickers. The recovered yaba tablets are in the process of being handed over to the Ukhiya police station for further legal action.

He emphasized that BGB maintains a strict stance not only on border security but also on preventing drug trafficking and smuggling. Operations of this nature will continue in the future to ensure law enforcement and public safety in border areas.
