Habiganj, Oct 20 (V7N) – Members of the 55 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion have seized Indian smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 1.48 crore and a truck during two separate operations conducted over the past 24 hours along the Habiganj border.
 
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from the 55 BGB Battalion headquarters carried out an operation on Thursday (October 17) in the Jagdishpur Muktijoddha Chattar area, about five kilometers inside the border under Madhabpur upazila. During the raid, a suspicious truck, Dhaka Metro-Ta-18-8367, was searched and found abandoned. The team discovered a large quantity of Indian cumin seeds cleverly concealed under sacks of fish feed and fertilizer.
 
The total seizure value of the goods and the truck was estimated at Tk 1.25 crore. The confiscated items were later handed over to the Habiganj Customs Office in accordance with legal procedures.
 
In a follow-up operation on Friday (October 18), another special BGB team raided the Satchhari–Chunarughat road area, approximately five kilometers inside the border. During the raid, the team recovered a large quantity of Indian Kashmiri shawls, sarees, three-piece dresses, cumin seeds, and snacks (phuchka), all found abandoned. The estimated value of the seized items in this operation was Tk 22.80 lakh. The confiscated goods are currently being processed for handover to the Habiganj Customs Office.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanjilur Rahman, commanding officer of the 55 BGB Battalion, said that the BGB remains steadfast in protecting the nation’s borders and combating smuggling and drug trafficking. He noted that these ongoing operations not only disrupt criminal networks but also bring relief to local communities. He emphasized that every successful raid strengthens Bangladesh’s economic and social security.
 
The BGB further stated that intelligence surveillance has been intensified to identify and apprehend members of smuggling syndicates. The 55 BGB Battalion also urged local residents to actively cooperate in building a community-based movement to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking in border regions.
