Dhaka, July 14 (V7N) – The Office of the Chief Advisor has addressed recent media reports suggesting an alarming rise in crime rates, clarifying that such claims are not entirely accurate and have caused unnecessary fear among citizens. This statement was posted on the Chief Advisor’s official Facebook page on Monday (July 14).
According to official crime statistics released by the Police Headquarters covering the period from September 2024 to June 2025, the overall crime situation remains stable rather than deteriorating sharply.
The data shows that in these 10 months, a total of 3,554 murders were recorded, with the highest number of 583 occurring in September 2024 and the lowest, 294, in January 2025. Rape cases totaled 4,105, peaking at 537 in April 2025, while acid attacks were reported in only 5 cases.
Other crime figures include 829 kidnappings, 7,310 thefts, and 610 robberies, with the police registering a total of 144,955 cases during this period.
The Chief Advisor’s office emphasized that although certain crimes have seen minor increases, the overall trend does not indicate a ‘crime wave.’ Serious crimes have either decreased or remained stable over the last ten months.
The statement concluded by urging citizens to remain vigilant and cautious but reassured that the law enforcement agencies are working to maintain public safety.
