Washington, Oct 09 (V7N)- The US military plans to livestream the execution of former Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting in Texas, according to a Pentagon official.

Reuters reported on Thursday that the execution, scheduled for December 3, will be carried out by firing squad at Fort Hood, where the attack took place. The livestream would mark an unprecedented move in the United States.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the execution would be made public, saying people would be able to watch it.

The execution date was set by acting Army Secretary Adam Telle after President Donald Trump approved the death sentence on October 2, 2026. The Army announced that the execution would take place at 1 pm Central Time on December 3.

Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, opened fire on fellow military personnel at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.

A military jury convicted him in 2013 and sentenced him to death. His case would mark the first execution of a US military service member since 1961 and the first execution by firing squad by the US military since 1945.

The plan to livestream the execution has drawn attention to the use of capital punishment and the decision to make an execution publicly viewable. Further details about the broadcast have not yet been announced.
