Dhaka, Oct 09 (V7N)- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami is conspiring over the city corporation’s initiatives to clear sidewalks of illegal occupation and regulate auto-rickshaw movement.
He made the allegation on Friday morning after inaugurating the July Graffiti Remake programme on a metro rail pillar in Mirpur, the capital.
Speaking at the event, Shafiqul Islam Khan said the graffiti would honour the contributions of those who had fought for democracy in Bangladesh.
He said the DNCC was carrying out renovation work on sidewalks in Mirpur with the cooperation of local residents and that efforts to clear pedestrian walkways would continue across Dhaka in phases.
The administrator said the goal was to make sidewalks accessible and suitable for pedestrians, free from encroachment.
He added that city residents would be involved in preventing renewed occupation of cleared sidewalks, stressing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining pedestrian access.
The allegation against Jamaat-e-Islami was made by the DNCC administrator; no response from the party was included in the information provided.
