Washington, Oct 09 (V7N)- Hurricane Isaias is approaching the Gulf Coast of the United States after strengthening into a Category 2 storm, raising concerns over dangerous winds, flooding and coastal surges.

According to the information provided, the hurricane had maximum sustained winds of around 140 kilometres per hour on Thursday morning, with forecasters warning that wind speeds could increase to 175 kilometres per hour by Friday.

The storm threatens parts of the Gulf Coast with potentially dangerous conditions, including coastal flooding, tornadoes and flash floods.

Authorities in Florida have ordered residents in some areas to evacuate as a precaution against the approaching storm. Alabama has also declared a state of emergency in response to the threat.
