Ashgabat, Oct 09 (V7N)- Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged Russia's cooperation in efforts to end the conflict between the United States and Iran, offering support for a diplomatic solution.
Putin made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Turkmenistan.
The Russian president said Iran was making sincere efforts to bring the conflict to an end. He also argued that the conflict had not begun because of any fault or mistake by Tehran.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian said Iran was discussing a new proposal with the United States aimed at ending the conflict.
He said both sides had made changes to the proposal and that, once the process was completed, there were plans to pursue an agreement through a meeting involving mediators.
The comments suggest that diplomatic efforts are continuing despite persistent disagreements between Washington and Tehran.
The conflict escalated on February 28, when the United States launched a military campaign against Iran under the name “Operation Epic Fury.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the end of the operation in early June, after approximately three and a half months. However, tensions and reports of further attacks between the two sides continued in the following months.
Russia's latest offer of cooperation comes as regional and international actors seek a diplomatic path to end the conflict and reduce the risk of further escalation.
