Murshidabad, Nov 24 (V7N) — Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has announced that a new structure named ‘Babri Masjid’ will be built in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, with the foundation stone scheduled to be laid on December 6. He made the declaration on Saturday in an interview with the Indian news agency ANI.

Kabir stated that the construction is expected to take three years to complete and that several Muslim leaders will attend the ceremony. His announcement comes ahead of the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid, a date that continues to evoke strong emotions across India.

The declaration has triggered intense political debate in West Bengal. BJP spokesperson Yasser Jilani sharply criticized the move, accusing the Trinamool Congress of deliberately inciting communal tensions for electoral gains. The statement has further fueled existing political polarization in the state.

The original Babri Masjid, located in Ayodhya, was torn down on December 6, 1992, by Hindu nationalist activists, leading to one of the deadliest outbreaks of communal violence in modern India. Kabir’s announcement, therefore, has revived sensitive memories surrounding the incident, adding new dimensions to the ongoing political discourse in West Bengal.
