Dhaka, May 31 (V7N) – Former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has officially taken charge as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), promising swift and effective action to develop cricket in the country.
Speaking at a press conference at the BCB headquarters on Friday (May 30), Bulbul likened his short-term tenure to a T20 match, saying,
“Tests are five-day games, ODIs are seven hours. I want to play a T20 innings.”
In response to questions about how long he plans to serve and what changes he hopes to bring, Bulbul avoided specifying a timeframe but made clear his commitment to advancing Bangladesh cricket in whatever time he has.
“I am the elected president of the BCB. I didn’t come here with a specific timeframe.”
Reflecting on his journey, Bulbul highlighted his extensive experience in international cricket development, saying,
“After my playing career, I spent almost 18 years with the ICC and ACC, working on cricket development. This is a new challenge and a new opportunity to serve my country’s cricket. I was asked if I would work if given the chance—and I said yes.”
Bulbul, widely respected for scoring Bangladesh’s first Test century, emphasized the collective spirit of cricket in the country:
“It’s not just 11 people on the field who play for Bangladesh. The entire nation plays. Everyone is part of this team.”
He also expressed gratitude to the BCB directors who elected him and pledged to unite all stakeholders to push Bangladesh cricket to new heights.
Leadership Shift at the BCB
Bulbul’s appointment follows a series of political shifts over the past year. In August of last year, Faruk Ahmed took over as BCB President from Nazmul Hasan Papon, following changes in the national political climate. Now, ahead of another August, the cricket board sees yet another change at the top.
As anticipation builds for what Bulbul’s “T20 innings” might bring, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if his fast-track approach delivers the much-needed momentum in Bangladeshi cricket.
