Frankfurt, Jun 05 (V7N)- Several crew members were injured after a Lufthansa Boeing 787 passenger aircraft suffered a mechanical failure while preparing for departure at Frankfurt Airport in Germany on Friday.
According to Lufthansa, the incident occurred shortly before the aircraft was scheduled to depart for Los Angeles, United States. The aircraft's nose landing gear reportedly collapsed while the plane was on the runway undergoing final pre-flight preparations.
At the time of the accident, no passengers were on board. However, several crew members and ground personnel were inside or working around the aircraft.
The sudden collapse caused a strong jolt, resulting in injuries to a number of crew members and airport staff. Emergency response teams and medical personnel stationed at the airport rushed to the scene immediately after the incident.
The injured were provided with first aid before being transported to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment. Lufthansa did not immediately disclose the exact number of people injured or the severity of their injuries.
Airport authorities secured the affected area and launched an investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure. Technical experts are expected to inspect the aircraft and review maintenance records to determine what led to the nose gear collapse.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of the most widely used long-haul aircraft in commercial aviation and is operated by airlines around the world on international routes.
The incident caused temporary disruption to airport operations, although officials said efforts were underway to minimize the impact on other flights.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and Lufthansa provides additional information regarding the condition of the injured personnel and the aircraft.
