PABNA, Aug 04 (V7N) — Two schoolboys went missing after being swept away by the strong current while bathing in the Jamuna River in Pabna's Bera upazila on Monday, prompting a joint search and rescue operation by police and the Fire Service.

The incident occurred at around 12:00 p.m. near the Notakhola Ghat area of Kazirhat under Aminpur Police Station.

The missing boys were identified as Ratul Roy, 15, son of Anutosh Roy of Dhaltosha village in Tangail's Nagarpur upazila, and Probhat Sarkar, 14, son of Mithu Lal Sarkar of Dilalpur in Pabna town. The two ninth-grade students are cousins.

According to police and local residents, the boys had travelled to visit the home of a relative in Khanpura Madhyapara village under Aminpur. They entered the Jamuna River to bathe at around noon but were reportedly swept away by the strong current.

Local residents immediately began searching for the teenagers but were unable to locate them.

Officer-in-Charge Arbinda Sarkar of the Kazirhat River Police Outpost confirmed the incident, saying police responded immediately after receiving the report.

He said a Fire Service diving team was called to assist in the operation, and rescue efforts were continuing jointly by the Fire Service, police and local volunteers.

As of 7:00 p.m. on Monday, when this report was filed, the two boys remained missing and the search operation was ongoing.
