Teknaf, Aug 04 (V7N) — Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a Rohingya man in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, after recovering a foreign-made pistol, ammunition and a mobile phone during a pre-dawn operation, officials said.

The operation was conducted at around 3:00 a.m. on Monday in the Rohingya Market area of Moragachhtala under Hnila Union in Teknaf.

The suspect was identified as Hafez Shafique, a Rohingya national.

According to RAB-15, CPC-2 (Whykong Camp), an operational team carried out the raid based on intelligence information. During the operation, officers recovered one foreign-made pistol, three rounds of ammunition and a mobile phone from the suspect's possession before taking him into custody.

Assistant Superintendent of Police A.M. Faruk, Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-15, confirmed the arrest.

He said the suspect had been handed over to Teknaf Police Station after a case was filed against him under Bangladesh's Arms Act.

Police will conduct further investigation into the source of the weapon and whether the suspect was linked to any criminal network, officials said.
