Moscow, Apr 10 (V7N) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing Ukraine war to mark Orthodox Easter, according to a Kremlin statement released on Thursday.
The statement said the ceasefire will be in effect from Saturday afternoon until sunset on Sunday, allowing a brief pause in hostilities during one of the most significant religious observances in the region.
Russia’s Defense Minister Andrei Belousov has reportedly ordered all military units to halt operations across all fronts during this period.
However, the Kremlin also issued a warning that any provocation from Ukraine would be met with an appropriate response, indicating that the ceasefire remains conditional.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signaled that Ukraine will also adhere to the ceasefire. In a social media post, Zelensky assured cooperation with the temporary truce.
The announcement comes amid ongoing intense fighting between the two countries, with international observers cautiously welcoming the move as a potential opportunity for humanitarian relief, even if only for a short duration.
