Seoul, Aug 04 (V7N) – South Korea has announced plans to remove anti-North Korea loudspeakers from its border areas, in a move aimed at easing tensions with Pyongyang.

President Lee Jae-myung stated that the decision is part of his administration’s effort to reduce hostility and open the door to improved relations between the two Koreas. For years, Seoul has used these loudspeakers to broadcast propaganda, news, and criticism of the North Korean regime across the heavily fortified border.

“This is a gesture of goodwill,” President Lee said. “We want to reduce bitterness and create a more stable environment on the peninsula.”

Despite this initiative, North Korea has dismissed any possibility of dialogue. Pyongyang has reiterated that it remains uninterested in negotiations with its southern neighbor.

Tensions between the two Koreas have remained high since the Korean War (1950–53) ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty. In recent years, relations have further deteriorated, with frequent military and political standoffs.

Seoul’s move is being viewed as a unilateral de-escalation measure, though observers note that without reciprocal steps from Pyongyang, its impact may be limited.
