RANGAMATI, June 8, 2026 (V7N) – At least 21 people, including four leaders of the Awami League and Jubo League, were arrested and detained in a special police raid conducted in Rangamati town from Sunday evening to night. Police conducted simultaneous searches in different areas of the city in this operation against devil hunts, juvenile gangs, drug trafficking and consumption, and gambling.

Confirming the arrests, Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer Md. Jasim Uddin said the special operation was launched across the city from Sunday afternoon under the direction of Rangamati Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib (PPM). A total of 21 people were arrested and detained in the operation until 11:15 pm.

Among the detainees, Ward No. 1 Jubo League President Jasim, General Secretary Babu Tripura, Ward No. 6 Awami League General Secretary Naresh Majumder, and Municipal Awami League Vice President Pintu were arrested in a case related to devil hunting, police said. In addition, 17 more people were arrested on charges of juvenile gang activities, gambling, and drug trafficking.

Police stated that the detainees will be sent to court on Monday after taking legal action against them. Kotwali Police Station Officer Md. Jasim Uddin said, "The police are determined to maintain law and order in Rangamati city and take strict action against criminals. No one involved in juvenile gangs, drugs, gambling or terrorist activities will be spared."

Police sources said simultaneous operations are being conducted at various important points and suspicious areas of the city. Concerned officials said such operations will be further intensified to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of the common people. Regular patrolling operations will be conducted across the city until further orders.
