Washington, Jun 08 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has urged Israel not to retaliate against Iran following Tehran's missile attack, according to remarks made during phone interviews with several international and American media outlets.
Trump reportedly held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after Iran launched missiles toward Israel. Citing the US president, media reports said no casualties were reported from the Iranian attack, prompting Washington to call for restraint and discourage further military escalation.
According to the reports, Trump also suggested that Netanyahu had limited options other than accepting a potential agreement with Iran.
Despite the call for restraint, Israel later carried out a series of airstrikes targeting several key Iranian cities, including the capital Tehran. The attacks began shortly after midnight on Sunday and also struck the cities of Tabriz and Isfahan.
Iranian state media and the Israeli military both confirmed the strikes.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that at least two powerful explosions were heard in Tehran, while at least three explosions were reported in Isfahan.
The Israeli military said its forces targeted military sites in western and central Iran.
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB also reported multiple explosions in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan.
The latest escalation came after Iran launched missile attacks toward Israel on Sunday night, further intensifying tensions across the region amid growing concerns of a broader conflict.
