RANGAMATI, MAY 30 (V7N): A fire service diving team recovered the body of 17-year-old Nabadwip Chakma on Saturday evening after he went missing while bathing in Kaptai Lake near the Balukhali Union Parishad in Sadar Upazila, Rangamati.
The incident occurred around noon on May 30. Local residents said Nabadwip, who lived in the Balukhali area, had gone to bathe at the ghat beside the Union Parishad office with friends. He slipped into deeper water and drowned. His companions raised the alarm and villagers immediately began searching, but were unable to locate him.
Authorities were notified and the Rangamati Fire Service and Civil Defence dispatched a specialised diving team. After about six hours of continuous searching in challenging conditions, divers recovered Nabadwip’s body from the lake at 5:55 pm.
Rescue personnel said the operation was made difficult by the depth and terrain, but they worked persistently to bring the teenager’s body ashore. Police said the body will be handed to the family after required legal formalities are completed.
The tragedy has plunged Balukhali and neighbouring communities into mourning. Locals urged greater caution when bathing or boating on Kaptai Lake to prevent similar incidents.
