UKHIYA, May 6, (V7N) — A Rohingya man was killed in an armed clash at Balukhali 8‑East camp in Ukhia on Wednesday afternoon, sparking panic among residents. The deceased, Mohammad Kamal, younger brother of Nabi Hossain, head of the Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), was shot and later declared dead at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

According to APBN Commander Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Kamal was rescued with bullet wounds after the gunfight and sent to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Two people have been killed in the camps in the past two days, including Abdul Halim, head of the Halim Group, who was shot Tuesday evening in Kutupalong Camp‑7. Police have since strengthened patrols in Ukhia’s camps.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies carried out multiple operations in Cox’s Bazar:

Coast Guard raids in the sea areas near Saint Martin and Shahparir Islands led to the arrest of 13 people along with drugs and smuggled goods. In one operation near Chheradwip, 10 suspects were detained with foreign liquor worth Tk 260,000. Another raid near Golarchar seized soybean oil, onions, and flour worth Tk 154,000 being smuggled to Myanmar.

RAB forces arrested Mohammad Anwar (29), a fugitive convicted in a drug case, during a raid in Maragach Tala, Palangkhali Union. Anwar, a resident of Camp‑11, had been absconding for a long time.

In parallel, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam visited Camp‑4 in Ukhia Wednesday morning. He inspected food distribution under the World Food Program, LPG supply, medical services, education centers, and women’s skill development projects. Rohingya representatives expressed their hope for repatriation during a view‑sharing meeting.
