DHAKA, May 6, (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to work impartially and fearlessly for the welfare of the people, stressing that the greatest asset of the state is the trust of its citizens.
Speaking at the annual conference of the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) at the Bangladesh‑China Friendship Conference Centre, the Prime Minister emphasized transparency and accountability as essential for building public confidence in government and administration.
He noted that the administration is not merely an instrument of law enforcement but a medium of serving people. Highlighting Bangladesh’s demographic dividend, he urged officials to help transform the young population into skilled manpower, which he said could change the nation’s future.
Tarique Rahman also underscored the importance of family values and social cohesion, stating that strong families reinforce state values. He urged officials to ensure that ordinary citizens receive services with respect, transparency, and without harassment, adding that humane behavior toward service recipients is as important as legal procedures.
The Prime Minister’s spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, cabinet members, chiefs of the three services, and family members of BASA members attended the event. The Prime Minister was presented with the association’s crest and later joined a cultural program and dinner.
The four‑day DC conference, inaugurated on May 3 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium, concluded with this BASA gathering. During the conference, ministers briefed DCs on updated administrative matters, while DCs and divisional commissioners also met President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.
