DHAKA, May 6, (V7N) — Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has insisted that the Tigers are not dwelling on past glories as they prepare for their upcoming Test series against Pakistan, aiming instead to “make new history.”

Bangladesh famously swept Pakistan 2–0 on their soil in 2024, a landmark victory hailed as the dawn of a new era. But Simmons said that achievement has little relevance now:

“No, it’s history and that history is gone. We want to make new history now,” Simmons remarked. “We’re in Bangladesh now, not in Pakistan. All those things we have to put behind us and focus on Friday.”

Since that triumph, Bangladesh endured mixed results — losing series against India and South Africa, drawing with West Indies and Zimbabwe, before regaining momentum with a 2–0 win over Ireland last year.

Simmons acknowledged the inconsistency but stressed that players are determined to bat long and build big scores against Pakistan’s top-class bowlers.

“If you want to be higher in the rankings, you have to play against top-class bowlers. Everybody’s in that frame of mind that they want to get big scores now, which is a good thing,” he said.

The coach emphasized that consistency and resilience will be key if Bangladesh hopes to sustain its winning spree and climb the Test rankings.
